God's Timing

Scripture Reading: Exodus 23-24

In Exodus 23 we see that if we obey God and walk with Him daily, His enemies will become our enemies and our adversaries will become His adversaries. God let Moses know that He would protect and go before the Israelites to drive out all the Canaanites from before them. However, notice that God doesn’t say He will wipe them out immediately. Why is that? After all, He is the Almighty God who has infinite power to accomplish His will. Why would He drive them out “little by little?"

God knew that if He wiped out all the Canaanites the land would become empty and the beasts of the field would overtake it. If this happened then His chosen people couldn’t have safely inhabited the land. We also know that God is into the tiniest details as evidenced by the way He laid out the laws in the previous verses. Why, then, wouldn’t His timing be down to the second as well? God’s timing is always perfect regardless of the circumstances.

How many times have you wanted something (job promotion, new car, a family) immediately and in God’s wisdom you didn’t receive it at that time. Sometimes the hardest thing we do is wait on God. But when we don’t wait on Him, we are going directly against His Word. Psalm 46:10 reads, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Can you look back in your life and thank God for His sovereign timing? He always knows what is best for us and when our will is aligned with His will, then “His enemies will become our enemies.”

The last part of Romans 8:31 states, “If God is for us, who can be against us.” This is one of the most comforting scriptures we can turn to in our time of need because it reminds us that God is for us! Walking daily in God’s will we are MORE than conquerors (Rom 8:37). God doesn’t want you to just exist, He wants you to abound and glorify Him in all that you do, giving HIM praise in every situation.
